💎 “The voice of my lover! Behold, he is coming—leaping over the mountains, springing over the hills! My lover is like a gazelle or a young buck among the stags. Look! He is standing behind our wall— gazing through the windows, peering through the lattice.” (Son 2:8-9, TLV)
Some people see Song of Songs (Song of Solomon) as an oriental erotic love song and it should not have any place in the Bible. However, others find amazing inspiration in it as a spiritual allegory. Jewish tradition reads it as an allegory of God’s intimate relationship to the nation Israel. God is seen in the figure of Solomon the king, and Israel is the chosen wife. In the books of prophets, God also often addresses Israel as His wife and tells His deep and beautiful love for His people. Christianity finds Song of Songs as an allegory of Messiah and His bride, the Church. The beautiful picture of the relationship of the bride and the bridegroom is the special relationship that the Church experiences with Yeshua, as they express their love of each other.
Kol Dodi, Hebrew for “Voice of my beloved” is a traditional Hebrew song singing from Shir ha-Shirim (Song of Songs) 2:8-9. After a long silence, the bride heard the voice of her lover with an exclamation of joyful surprise! He left her earlier, but in sovereign grace he returns to find her with intense desire in spite of all the hindrances! She awakes from her lovesickness and recognises His voice immediately. After His temporary withdrawal previously, His deep love reassures her that he has never ceased to love her!
There is nothing more exciting for a Jewish person to hear the voice of Yeshua, find Him, recognise Him and follow Him! And it is the same for any unbeliever! Let us enjoy and learn Kol Dodi a Hebrew song today, and pray that God reveals the truth to the Jewish people in His love and faithfulness!
