An Encounter During Passover: From Defense to Tears and the Opening of Prayer

The Encounter and the Opening

On April 2nd, during the Passover, the Lord sovereignly orchestrated an encounter for us to host two Israeli young women, S and A. S was bubbly and talkative, while A remained quiet due to physical discomfort. When we shared that we are followers of Yeshua (Jesus), S initially reacted with a hint of surprise and defensiveness. Yet, in that very starting point, the work of God began to quietly unfold.

Before the meal, we joined in a prayer of thanksgiving, praising the Heavenly Father for bringing us together during Passover. We reflected on how both the Jewish people and those of us today have been led out of bondage into freedom—and for us, how this salvation is found in Yeshua, the Passover Lamb. As we lifted our heads after the prayer, we saw tears welling up in S’s eyes; the Holy Spirit had already begun to touch her heart.

Sharing at the Table

For dinner, we specifically ordered lamb chops, using the setting to share the significance of the lamb’s blood applied to the doorposts long ago. We connected this to the Christian faith: that Yeshua is our Passover Lamb, through whom we receive true deliverance and redemption.

Intrigued by our culture, they listened as we shared how Chinese characters echo biblical truths—such as the word for “Righteousness” (), which depicts a “Lamb” () over “Me” (), a profound image of substitutionary atonement. We also spoke of the Spring Festival tradition of pasting red couplets on doors, a mark that mirrors the covering of the Lamb’s precious blood.

Furthermore, we shared a unique interpretation of the ROC flag: blue symbolizing the Kingdom of Heaven, red for the blood of Yeshua, and the twelve rays of light representing the twelve tribes of Israel. We noted that the Republic of China was among the first to recognize Israel, and we shared the history of Consul General Ho Feng-Shan, who helped Jewish people escape persecution during WWII. Deeply moved, S eventually drew the flags of the ROC and Israel side-by-side in our guestbook.

As the conversation turned to the conflicts in their homeland and the tensions across the Taiwan Strait, we shared honestly: “Taiwan does not have an Iron Dome, but we have a Prayer Dome.” We testified how years of prayer have shifted environments and even redirected typhoons. They listened with wonder and contemplation, as if beginning to perceive the reality of prayer through a new lens.

Transformation on the Way Home

During the walk home, we spoke of how prayer transforms streets and cities. This sharing moved prayer from a theological concept into a lived reality. It was during this walk that S softly expressed her desire to learn how to pray, just as we do.

Blessings Within the Home

At our doorstep, the sight of the red couplets once again reinforced our earlier sharing, pointing to the covering and redemption of Yeshua. Inside, we shared prophetic blessings from the “Voice of Burning Bush.” S, previously so talkative, grew gentle in spirit, her eyes glistening with tears—a sign of being deeply understood, seen, and touched by the Father. Beside her, quiet A also received this divine presence.

We prayed for their future and health, interceding for their needs. In a poignant moment, S and A spontaneously offered to pray for us, specifically blessing the BBPN Beit Simcha. In that instant, a tender and authentic flow was established as those being served began to minister in return.

As Romans 11:11 says: “Salvation has come to the Gentiles to make Israel envious.” Seeing them move from initial defense to being moved to tears, and finally to offering prayer themselves, we were deeply awestruck. When the love of Christ is lived out, a holy longing is awakened in their hearts.

Words of Remembrance

Before departing, they wrote in our guestbook: “This encounter tonight was like meeting angels; it is wonderful for Jews and Christians to be together.” They expressed that they felt truly “seen” here and received a sense of direction for life and love—memories that would remain etched in their hearts. We felt deeply that this was more than hospitality; it was a divine appointment.

That night was no accident. They continually exclaimed, “Amazing!” From the initial distance to the final tears and prayers, God let His love flow, touching and awakening souls. Two hearts that were once strangers found the warmth of home in Taiwan through the Father’s wondrous arrangement. May the seeds sown that night continue to sprout, leading them into a deeper revelation of Yeshua.
